following releases by label boss paul ritch and portuguese producer cardao, quartz rec welcomes a new addition to its roster, dj sodeyama, with >i wanna dance< ep. dj, producer, label owner & founder of arpa records, yoshifumi sodeyama started djing in the early 90s in his native tokyo. his well crafted productions have been released on japanese and international labels, including a recent appearance on nina kravitzs trip compilation >i have a question<. on this ep, from the building tension of the opening track, to the beautiful acid sounds of the last, dj sodeyama manages to create great atmospheres using repetitive patterns with drifting sounds that will surely make the dancers mind wander.

lp,180 g, 2018 reissue - remastered from original tapes, carefully reproduced original art veteran library musician alan parker recorded with session vocalist madeline bell for his themes international music label and the result was 1976s the voice of soul. the sensational uptempo dancer thats what friends are for is probably the most well known track on the record, and is a big hit on the rare groove scene, but it is by no means an anomaly. the voice of soul is essentially a perfect, sophisticated soul album with heaps of swagger and sass from beginning to end. its once generic-sounding title is now deservedly definitive.

love makes the world go around. “two”, the second album by the soul session, is full of love. ralph kiefer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer from south germany embarks on a stylistically diverse journey into soul, jazz, funk and world music. being a highly respected session musician in the jazz as well as the crossover scene, kiefer made a serious impact in 2011 with “one”, the first soul session album. “one” was built on a solid backbeat of soul, hip hop and funk, while “two” now takes a step further into a spiritual and eclectic dimension. “quantraversa” featuring the voice of las vegas based neo-soul queen georgia anne muldrow is the mind- blowing opener of this album, a truly deep and intense rhythmic statement. quantraversa is a word which you will not find in any dictionary, but that is not the point, says ralph kiefer. “this album is a journey to the inner self. the recording process was like meditation. i often started with a loop, or an idea for a melody. it evolved from there and i simply let it happen. when i involved the lyricists and vocalists, my drafts sometimes took a completely different paths and ended in something unexpected and beautifully new.” the double vinyl is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

anders trentemollers career is a travel-heavy one, with his touring schedule taking him pretty much all over the world. but its his home port thats inspired his latest project, the sprawling, stunning compilation mix harbour boat trips vol. 02: copenhagen. clocking in at just over an hour long, the compilation sees trentemoller curate and craft sixteen songs into a heavy, hazy mix that ranges from shoegaze to electronica, featuring both familiar and celebrated artists like a place to bury strangers (with a new trentemoller remix) and slowdive to more obscure finds, as well as trentemollers own tracks and remixes, most notably a brand new trentemoller cover of neil youngs classic transformer man.the mix sees him pick up a thread he left off earlier in his career. in 2009 he put together harbour boat trips 01: copenhagen, a compilation mix comprised of his favourite music, both danish and international, from across four decades, loosely inspired by the motion and movement of copenhagens busy harbour. closing in on a decade later, were getting the second edition, with harbour boat trips - 02 arriving this november.

its time to deliver the second ep from adana twins latest mix compilation and with this one we set the focus to the more organic and off kilter leanings from lehar, sbth, acid pauli, musumeci and stereocalypse. kicking things off is italys lehar with his super slick ‘blue wolf where robust percussions culminate in a potent groove laying the foundation for lush sonic melodies that transport you into uniquely sublime spaces. sbth follows with the exceptionally unique ‘4w1r6 where they forgo the standard four-to-the-floor approach and employ a distinguished and uncommonly unique 3/4 time signature to full effect creating a swelling and brooding number assuring a definite, clear memory long after it ends. flipping to the b-side we see the renowned acid pauli in top form as he relies heavily on thick organic percussion and plush musicality with his ‘greetings from orgonon before switching gears as musumeci delivers a stunner with ‘invaders where past meets present as disco, techno and house all meet in one harmonious culmination. to round out the ep, stereocalypses ‘jubeelee! is an expertly crafted venture into the modern techniques of infectious afro-house concluding an extremely well rounded ep showcasing the diversity of adana twins selection and diversity.

with brighton being the spiritual birthplace of the london based anti skate label, it only felt right for them to finally have a proper release from a local talent. tech support’s output has seen releases on the likes of homage & astropical tapes, as well as a busy year of djing up and down the country. “excursion” is the dreamy playful opener that everyone needs to be prescribed in the morning, and not surprisingly, jesse bru has done an amazing job at turning it over its head quite intricately with a bit of detroit flavourings to go with it. the b-side is nothing short of special with the exciting piano keys and vocals on “praise” making it a boat party must-have. last but not least, the namesake “friends” is the butterfly-inducing club closer that’s been shown love by the likes of dan shake, lovebirds and laurence guy.
